5 Fun Facts About Pride Month

Hello guys, we’re back at it again for another five fun facts. However, this time, it’s all about the colorful pride month this June! Let’s get started!!
 
  1. The rainbow flag was designed in 1978
  • A man named Gilbert Baker made the flag, which used to consist of 8 colors, but now has 6. The flag is used to represent the LGBTQ+ community.
 

2. There are over 20 different LGBTQ+ flags

  • Honestly, is this surprising? Some of the most notable LGBTQ+ flags we see often are the rainbow flag, trans flag (white, blue, and pink), bisexual (pink, purple, dark blue), and others.
 

3. Pride month is celebrated in June because of the Stonewall riots.

  • This event occurred on June 8th, 1969, when police began to raid a well known gay bar, Stonewall Inn, in the heart of New York .
 

4. New York is one of the top cities that celebrates Pride Month

  • Is this a shocker? No. Obviously, NYC has a lot of celebrations for pride month, consisting of a diverse community. Its pride events usually have over 3 million attendees as well! If you’re looking to celebrate Pride Month this year, be sure to attend NYC’s pride parade happening on June 25th!

5. Pride Month is a movement that sparked radical change in the cause throughout society.

  • Prior to pride month, there wasn’t any representation for the LGBTQ+ community. The declaration of pride month allowed for the exposure of the community to be more widespread and popular.
