3 Tips For Actually Getting Work Done
We all struggle to deal with procrastination. Even when we tell ourselves it’s time to work, we often find ourselves back on Instagram or TikTok 5 minutes later. Here are a few tips to keep you focused enough to finish all required tasks :
Tip # 1: Organize Yourself
Find the best possible time for you to work. Don’t decide to work at times when you are not functioning properly, because this can cause you to overthink the situation or just get irritated towards it because your mind is not in a clear space. Try working at a time of the day when you feel productive, when you feel that you can sit down and get the most work done easily. This is only one part of the problem, though. This is because a person usually thinks that they have to finish their work in one sitting, which isn’t true. Overworking can cause fatigue. So instead it’s better to take breaks, but appropriate ones. The amount of work time should be significantly larger than your break time. For example, for 45 minutes of work, a 10-minute break is a good enough time to stretch your back or grab a snack from the kitchen.
Tip # 2: Focus On One Task At A Time
Don’t bounce between different tasks. Focus on putting your full energy and attention into one task at a time so that it could get done properly. Trying to do multiple tasks at once causes you to divide your attention which will then also lead to decreased productivity. This is because switching between tasks back and forth can cause loss of momentum and will make you spend more time trying to refocus yourself. By focusing on one task at a time you learn to prioritize on that one task more effectively.
Tip # 3: Have A Proper Environment
Set up the perfect environment for yourself. This is dependent on yourself though, and in what situation you’re most comfortable working in, but here are some suggestions of what your workspace should include :
- Peace
Don’t try to keep working in the living room if it’s too noisy, it’s going to make it difficult for your mind to focus. Instead, try to find a peaceful place to work in, this might be another room, a library, a Starbucks, or wherever else you find appropriate.
- Water
Keep a glass of water close by to quickly refresh you if your brain ever gets stuck.
- Proper Equipment
Make sure to have all the equipment needed to get a task done before actually starting it. This can help you easily stay in your zone once you start working, instead of having to constantly get up to get something.
- No Distractions
Keep things that distract you away from you. For a lot of people, this is their phone. When their phone buzzes they find it tempting to take a look. But before they know it, they’re back on social media platforms a minute later, and once the scrolling starts, it doesn’t end for at least a couple of minutes. This causes you to waste time, and for your brain to forget what it was working on. Instead, put your phone or other distractions in another room or somewhere away from you before starting a task.
In conclusion, though it is difficult to get work done sometimes, these are some tips you could try using to make sure you get your work done in the least amount of time possible next time.
