Benefits of A Second Language

English is known to be a universal language, so people don’t feel obligated to learn a new language, but a second language offers multiple benefits for you.

  • The knowledge of a second language stimulates your brain because you’re absorbing a new system with a new grammar where you’re using different hemispheres of your brain to understand the balance of languages.
  • I’m sure some of us have problems where; we study just to end up on our phones, and new languages stretch our attention span. You’re less likely to encounter distractions when trying to concentrate on switching between languages.
  • Your career field is much more flexible because many employers prefer candidates with foreign languages that can help communicate and develop international relationships.
  • A new language has long-term health benefits because you’re continually using your brain, preventing Alzheimer’s or Dementia from interfering with your brain.

Foreign language is already mandatory in New York, so take advantage of it and pay attention! I would also suggest taking the electives for foreign language as well as it really helps you digest the language with reading and writing.
