How to Prevent Senioritis?

What is senioritis?
Senioritis stems from the drastic increase of unmotivated seniors towards the second half of the school year. Senioritis typically includes cutting classes, late work, & declined participation in their studies.

How do students get senioritis?
In your senior year, you’re so busy preparing for your future, finding recommendation letters, touring colleges, writing application essays, and applying for scholarships, you’re exhausted. Even after that, you still have to go to your classes, complete your homework, and study for exams, and seniors mostly would prioritize their future rather than their present. Now this is just the first half of the year, now you’re towards the second, you’ve sent your applications and you’re good to go! WRONG! Seniors spend so much waiting for their application decision and it’s overwhelming. Many students have mental breakdowns because they’re not confident in their application and so focusing in school is harder, they’d rather skip than manage high school stress alongside it. Trust me when I say that you’ll even see the most intelligent students unfocused with a declining GPA, don’t let that be you.

Why is senioritis serious?
Yes, seniors are going into college next year, so why are their senior-year grades important? Many colleges review seniors’ semesters to see whether they’re consistent; many seniors get their applications wavered simply because they couldn’t hand in homework. Imagine all your 4 years of high school are gone to waste because you started slipping up during your senior year, it’s a joke.

How to prevent senioritis?
Set goals; your main goal is to get into a great college and staying focused helps. If you slack during your senior year, it acts as a gap year and you’ll be overwhelmed by the workload as a freshman.

Have fun; you should be taking breaks once in a while, preferably not ones that skip class but rather go out on spring breaks and spend time with friends and family before you go to college.

Make changes; join a new club, study outside, or take a new route going home. You’ll be able to focus must easier if you start breaking your routine slightly, so you have breathing room to be more flexible.

Organize; senioritis is the worst when you procrastinate, so send constant reminders to help upkeep your work. It will be hard to miss an assignment when a reminder is in your face all the time!
