Resident Assistants

Most resident halls typically have resident assistants (RA) who are students who help other students adjust to the living arrangements and enforce rules. They have many objectives to make forming work.

RA’s host many back-to-school events weekly, so it’s easier to make friends and build a community. They introduce you to new ideas and cultures and make a more inclusive environment. They create study groups and stay in contact with administrators, so they’re very resourceful.

Although they could be fun, their job is also to encourage rules. They’re not very strict, the rules are pretty generic with no alcohol, pets, or engaging in illegal activities. They also resolve quarrels between roommates or any problems with getting locked out of your dorm or someone playing loud music late at night, waking you in the middle of the night to resolve it.

Remember, anyone could become an RA, but remember that they’re also a student, usually, they’re not freshmen, so their workload is heavier. If you could maintain both of these tasks without lacking in either, then this could be a great extracurricular that you could add to your resume. They get many benefits with a single dorm for free or cheaper bills each semester.
