How to Get Rid of a Cold

Around this time, we see temperatures dropping and the holiday season coming closer. Though I love fall and winter, it’s predestined for me to catch a cold at some point. I‘ve been sick-prone ever since I was a kid, sneezing and sniffling every December. However, over the years, I’ve developed a routine for myself that is sure to clear me up in just a few days. So what is it that I tend to do when I’m in a sickly situation?

Pain Relievers

One of the most common methods—one that I typically resort to—is pain relievers. While a cold may not technically be painful, it is said to alleviate allergies as well. Any example may include Motrin, Advil, Tylenol, or Claritin. Either way, they offer the same result and are generally the same in getting the job done.

Flonase

Nasal sprays are ideal, especially for symptoms like runny noses or congestion. Flonase is your go-to for those situations, which I recommend. During allergy season, you want to try using it every day to achieve the 24-hour relief you’ll crave.

Sinex Saline

On top of Flonase, I like to top it off with Sinex Saline by Vicks. This combination has never yet failed me in decongesting my nose. Both products are around $30, and they are worth the money. It works like a charm!

Hydrogen Peroxide

It may or may not be safe to say that hydrogen peroxide is a staple many homes own. If you find that you don’t make much use of it, this is a great excuse to try it now. Before any of my nasal sprays, I get a cotton swab, pour a couple of drops on each tip, and swab the Q-tips around my nostril. Once you spritz those nasal sprays, you’ll be set!

However, before you simply take my word for anything and go spending, do your research. What works for me might not work for you. Establish your boundaries on what you’ll be comfortable doing—maybe you’re not a fan of swallowing pills or spraying mists. It’s taken me trial and error to finally figure out my routine, and hopefully yours won’t be so lengthy.
