Dual Enrollment

Dual enrollment is a partnership between high schools and universities, where they allow current high school students to enroll in college courses while receiving credit. Students typically take classes in the area of field they’re interested in. This is a better alternative to AP courses because you need to take an exam to determine if you earn the credit.

Pros:

  • The workload is much stronger than in high school, and taking this before moving forward to college will put you ahead of other freshmen who didn’t. You enter college knowing what to do and how to prepare for your exam
  • This choice is much more reduced cost than when you’re a college student taking the course
  • Early graduation; you’re ahead of your credits, so you’re spending less money and mostly done with your prerequisite courses

Cons:

  • it’s very possible for credits not to transfer because some schools don’t offer the same partnership
  • You have greater expectations as a student taking this class, and it’ll be difficult juggling your traditional classes
  • You’re completing courses in advance, so it’s possible to lose your experience and miss out on classes with freshmen that you can make friends with
