Discrimination in the Truck Industry

Women only make up about 8% of truck drivers. What if I told you it was due to discrimination? Truck companies have told women applicants that they’re required to be trained by women trainers to prevent harassment as 1/3 out of female drivers have expressed harassment concerns, but due to the lack of women available it’s not possible. Women have even expressed interest in working with men if it secured them a job and didn’t have to be on a waitlist indefinitely, but companies continually rejected their claims. Though this may sound like a good addition to assault, it just prevents diversity in this work field. Women on occasion would mask their gender identity until they review their qualifications. Some women teamed up to file a lawsuit against one of the biggest companies, Steven’s Transport. They denied ever having a rule against women and actively fighting. This happened in EEOC as well and they paid $1.25 million to compensate the women who were denied because of their gender.
