What to Do in Summer Before Going to College
The summer before the next chapter in your life is surreal and important. During this time, you want to create the best memories possible. Once you go to college, you won’t have the time to create great memories. Your feelings also play a huge role. You will most probably feel excitement, uncertainty, fear, nervousness, anxiety, and sadness. The most important thing is to make this summer count and make sure it is the best one yet.
Here’s what to do so you don’t feel regret before going to college:
- Prepare mentally: To start your list, the first thing you must do is make sure your mind is clear and relaxed. College can be full of surprises, so you should think beforehand about what you would like to achieve there. Setting intentions and goals can help make your college experience easier.
- Create hobbies: During college, you might have some days where you are feeling negative. To help with boosting your mood, create hobbies or interests before college so you can distract yourself or help calm yourself from whatever is bothering you. This can include painting, music, sports, cooking, or anything else.
- Explore Your Campus: Going to a place where you will most likely be for the next four years is extreme. So if possible, you should visit your college campus to familiarize yourself with the layout and resources available. Know what your college offers and what it doesn’t.
- Work or Volunteer: Consider getting a summer job to earn some money, gain work experience, and develop responsibility. Volunteering can be rewarding and help you build connections in your community.
- Travel or Read: If you have the opportunity, traveling can be a great way to gain new perspectives and experiences. If you have a reading list for your college courses, start reading now to get a head start. Or read books that interest you.
- Organize Your Space: If you’ll be moving to a dorm or apartment, take some time to organize your belongings and pack them efficiently.
The summer before college is a unique time that can be both exciting and a little daunting. It’s an opportunity to relax, prepare, and not worry for the next stage in your life!
