Changing Majors

It’s crazy how high school students are expected to know what they want to do for their future since goals change frequently as they get older. If you’re taking your major-specific classes and find it uninteresting; change it! You don’t want to be that adult who hates their job, it’s much easier while you’re still in school because it’s harder in the future when you’re managing both a full-time job and a full-time student.

If the major requires you to use much more of your weaknesses instead of strengths, whether you’re lacking in communication or math skills. Maybe you took an internship program and found that the work environment isn’t for you.

Before changing, research possible majors that highlight your strengths the best. Then, speak to your academic advisor, they can help you make that adjustment without delaying your graduation for years. You could even use your major-specific classes as your electives, so they won’t go to waste, depending on how early you made the change. It’s ideal to switch majors in the same field because some of the courses you took could be required in another subject, but if not, consider the extra costs of the new required courses you need.
