Digital Footprint
What is a digital footprint?
A digital footprint is when all of the stuff you leave online is traceable; whether you think you deleted it: your online history can still be found. Many colleges or careers look into a possible student/employer to decide whether they would be a good fit; this includes your: previous websites, comments, or content.
Why does this affect me?
A poor online history from you can influence your future. Imagine years of preparing for an ivy league university, and one horrible comment from childhood can cause your application to rescind. Nothing on social media is private and should be contemplated: before clicking send. Despite this, digital footprints don’t solely have a negative effect; they have positive results too. There are situations when people: are considered for a job for their involvement in community service or professional group forms.
How can I improve my digital footprint moving forward?
It’s important to continue to use social media etiquette. Etiquette includes not behaving differently or responding to someone differently on social media than in person. Don’t encourage trolls; ideal to ignore rather than continue an altercation. Avoid the internet when angry; this will ensure you won’t spread negativity on social media. The way you treat others; should be the way you would like to be treated; don’t screenshot or post others without their consent. Also, share responsibly; don’t spread information you’re not confident is accurate.
Woah…
