SUMMARY:Writing from the Margins
DESCRIPTION:Writing from the Margins will explore the question of “who gets to tell what stories?” within the American publishing landscape. This event will feature a panel of students and industry professionals whose work interrogates the gatekeeping of narrative within the publishing industry. \n\n\n\nPanelists will discuss the challenges and revelations of writing about race and ethnicity\, mental health\, queerness\, and religion; the relationship between “writer” and the “canon”; making art in the time of capitalism; the commodification of identity;  the power of telling stories; and the role of stories in social movements.
