Jury Duty
Jury duty is a civic duty where you’re summoned to listen to testimonies, review evidence, and determine decisions in civil and criminal trials. Everyone is required to do jury duty above the age of 18 unless they have severe physical/mental illness, committed a felony, have done jury duty within 4 years, or a police officer. If you don’t report to your scheduled jury duty it’ll be rescheduled, but if you continually don’t show up you will be fined, have community service hours, or be jailed. Jury duty is randomized and once you arrive at trial you’ll be asked to answer a few questions to check your suitability for the jury to prevent biases and you’ll be excused. Jurors are paid $50 a day when they are of service and may receive travel reimbursements if applicable. Your employer is not permitted to fire you for jury duty, but they’re allowed not to give you paid time off. There are many scams either jury duty, but people wouldn’t receive a call or email regarding jury duty, any information is typically exchanged through mail.
