Must-Listen-to Podcasts

Ever need to pass the time by listening to anything that’ll distract you? Often, we find ourselves reaching for our favorite playlists—but let’s admit it—even those can become a bit repetitive at times. That’s when I turn to my trusty podcasts! If you’re on the lookout for some new audio companions, keep reading because I’ve got a list of my go-to podcasts that cover a variety of genres.

1. Murder with my Husband/Binged

Let’s be honest, there are about a couple hundred true crime podcasts that anyone could choose from. The main reason I highly suggest MWMH is due to the witty dynamic between the married couple running the show. Introducing Payton, who has a natural passion for the subject, and Garrett, who hates it. In each episode, they dive into personal stories, murder cases, and mysteries with a pinch of playful commentary. However, if you are looking for a podcast straight to the point without an extra spectator, Payton runs her own, “Binged.” It still serves crime cases with the perfect narrator, so I recommend that too. So whether you’re in for the duet, or a solo version, these two choices are my top picks!

2. The Moth

For a more relatable aspect, “The Moth” is a stellar choice. Instead of the same hosts running the show, real people share their personal, moving, and often heartwarming stories. It ranges from tales of triumph to moments of vulnerability that’ll leave you in complete awe. It’s a reminder that everyone has a story to tell, and each one is worth listening to. It’s a great way to nod your head in agreement as you connect with the experiences on the walk home from school.

3. My Dad Wrote A Porno

Don’t get too intimidated by the title; it’s about as straightforward as it gets. But don’t worry—the podcast itself is just as amusing. Run by Jamie, James, and Alice, this show digs merely into Jamie’s father’s poorly-written erotica. The trio reads the book chapter by chapter, and with every episode, it’ll leave you with uncontrollable laughter. Having already listened to a good chunk of these episodes, I promise it’s the best mix of awkwardness and humor. It’s the perfect remedy for a gloomy day when you need a good laugh.

4. Stuff You Should Know

One of the best feelings—for me—is when I’m mid-conversation with someone and just randomly spit out the most irrelevant fact that leaves them dazed. Most of the time, these facts come from a class in school, but I find that they’re beginning to come more from this very podcast. If you’re one of those people who just loves to learn anything that will most likely never come up again, this is for you! Josh and Chuck explore the widest range of topics, from science and history to pop culture and everyday phenomena. Their breakdown of complex subjects into digestible episodes makes curiosity fun.

5. Modern Love

And finally, I couldn’t leave out a podcast for my hopeless romantics. For those in search of heartwarming and touching stories about love and relationships, “Modern Love” delivers. Adapted from The New York Times column, writers share it all. By hitting all of the different aspects love has to offer, it’s beautifully narrating those intricate, messy, and magical parts of our human connections. Take a jab at it, or any of the ones above, and let me know what you think! Happy listening!
