My Favorite Hobbies
During the fall semester, I tend to run off of a busy schedule. In other words, I have minimal time to indulge in some of the hobbies I find comfort in doing. But on the few occasions I have time to spare, I try to fit in time for some of my favorite activities. So, continue reading to find out a little about my passions, how they’ve helped me grow, and how you can start your journey too!
Drawing
Drawing has always been an escape into a world of creativity and self-expression for me. With just a pencil and a piece of paper at such a young age, I was able to channel my thoughts and emotions to life. For me, it’s like a sort of meditation that allows me to quiet my mind and focus on the picture at hand. It’s taught me patience, attention to detail, and embracing imperfections.
Getting Started: If you’re interested in drawing, all you truly need are basic art supplies: paper, pencils, and erasers. Or, if you prefer digital, feel free to download any drawing app from the app store. There are plenty of different ways to get started. For one, you could mimic references and compare and contrast the small details you missed or added. You may want to search for tutorials and draw fruits step-by-step, or simply sketch whatever comes to mind. Whatever it is, as long as you’re having fun.
Writing
I’m not referring to the kind of writing where essays, papers, and English classes are involved. I’m talking about the kind of writing where the choice is completely yours as to what you want to do. You may find yourself in the mood to journal, so take out a notebook and begin to vent on paper about your day. Or rather, you become inspired by a movie you’ve recently seen and begin to craft fictional tales about all your wildest fantasies. Writing has taught me the beauty of storytelling and the power of words.
Getting Started: Similar to drawing, you only need a notebook, a pen, or a digital device. The most important thing is finding a quiet space to let your thoughts flow freely without trouble. Don’t worry about grammar or structure in the beginning; just focus on getting your ideas down before you forget.
Playing Violin
Like many other instrumental students, I began playing my violin at around 4th grade when the opportunity arose. At the time, I didn’t cherish it half as much as I do now, but it came with time. Through years of playing, I’ve learned the value of consistency and dedication. Even now, I still have yet to master it, but each day I practice, I get closer to my goal of becoming a better player. Playing it has only strengthened my love for my music even further.
Getting Started: Starting to play the violin may require finding a teacher or using online resources to learn the basics. Be prepared for a learning curve, as getting used to this instrument takes time and practice. But the rewards of playing beautiful music are well worth the effort.
These are just a few of my favorite hobbies, and I hope they inspire you to explore your passions and interests. Whether it’s drawing, writing, playing an instrument, or anything else that sparks your curiosity, hobbies are a wonderful way to discover more about yourself and the world around you.
