WNBA vs. NBA

The highest-paid WNBA player made a $242,000 salary, while the league minimum salary in the
NBA is over a million dollars in 2023. This wasn’t even really getting attention until the recent
2023 WNBA draft when we saw the WNBA rookie, who is bringing lots of attention to the sport,
will only be getting a $76,535 salary this year. Victor Wembeyana the NBA 1st pick rookie is
making a 12.16 million dollar salary. The problem stems from the organizations, women receive
around 10% of the WNBA’s overall revenue, while the NBA collective bargaining agreement
gives players 50% of the revenue (according to David Berri). The WNBA should be considered
on the same level as the NBA to generate more revenue, they should be promoting both
equally. Also, there should be changes to the arenas, like both the male and female teams
should be playing in the same arenas to generate more fans for both teams if they’re the same
teams.
